Hi everyone, my names Olivia from www.olivialucieblake.com. I’m so happy to be here and doing this collaboration with Arcane Lost. We decided to speak on Mental Health during this pandemic because we realise how much this pandemic has had an effect on us, not only physically but mentally too.
2020 been a rough year for a lot of reasons, and because of the events that have unfolded a lot of people have been suffering with bad mental health as a cause of it. We are doing this collab in the hopes that we help others who might be feeling down or need some extra support. Please remember there are resources out there if you really are struggling, don’t suffer in silence.
Today I’ll be sharing 5 tips on this blog, and once you have finished reading head over to my blog to read the other 5 tips!
Lets get started…
1. GET OUTSIDE
One of the most important things I have learnt is that getting outside and going into fresh air can lift your mood and spirits. During this pandemic its been so easy to feel trapped and feel as though you cant go anywhere, and I think this is the main reason why people have struggled so much mentally.
Usually what gets us through our days is getting out, going on holiday and socialising with friends. Now that this has been almost diminished it’s had such a toll on us. So I encourage you to get outside and experience nature, you’ll come back home feeling so much more refreshed.
2. SEEK ADVICE
If you aren’t coping well then please don’t be afraid to reach out to other people. You never know if they are experiencing the same as you. People often get apprehensive speaking to other people about their feelings. There can be such a stigma around it, especially for men.
I think it’s important to talk about how you feel, sometimes just saying it out loud or through text can put it into perspective. So many times I’ve had thoughts running through my head and all I needed to do was talk about it for me to realise I was over-reacting and it wasn’t a big deal like I thought it was.
There are always people out there who want to listen and would love to support you through a bad time. Don’t ever feel like you are a burden or a bother.
3. TAKE TIME OFF
Taking time off of work or your daily routine is different now, but you can still utilise the time. Its important that we allow our brains to shut off and relax. Now were all at home and some of us are working at home, there’s this assumption that we are to be available 24/7. Of course this is not the case.
Remind yourself that we are in a weird time in life, and that we cant be expected to be on and ready to go all the time. Take a day off if you can, or even if it’s an afternoon. Just give yourself some time to rest and relax. Its so important for anyone who suffers with mental health problems.
4. PRACTICE SELF-CARE
Over on my blog you will see I’m such a self-care advocate. Self-care comes in various different forms. It can be a long bath at the end of the day, telling someone no and protecting your feelings or it could be 10 minutes to yourself at lunch time. Whatever self-care it is, do it.
Remembering to look after you amongst looking after everything else is important and could be the thing that prevents you from tipping over the edge mentally.
5. EAT GOOD, BALANCED MEALS
Whenever I eat better, I feel better and in turn that helps me mentally. Because of being stuck at home and doing less exercise I think making sure that you are eating good, healthy and balanced meals is even more important than ever.
You are what you eat really is a saying I stand by. I see such a difference in my mood and how I feel when I eat better. Its a big help!
